Warnings of DIY Dentistry

Up-close image of dental work being done on teeth

As the first wave of coronavirus was on the rise, people were asked to stay home unless absolutely necessary. To the shock of most people worldwide, regular dental visits weren’t considered necessary, and people were recommended to delay their routine trip to the dentist until the pandemic was under greater control.

Just like most other things, people started finding DIY hacks in dentistry as well. However, unlike trying to replicate the cheese sauce from your favorite restaurant, trying to fix your dental issues by yourself can have grave consequences.

Why Is DIY Dentistry Dangerous?

It is true that some of the DIY dentistry hacks people are using may not be as harmful and would only result in the loss of one’s time and energy. However, most dental DIYs can have harmful side effects that may warrant even more trips to the dentist. In fact, they may cause you to get an infection, develop an abnormal bite, or even lose a few teeth.

When you visit the dentist, you are treated using sterile instruments in a controlled environment. No matter how much you try, you cannot duplicate that in your bathroom or kitchen sink. Therefore, you may expose your teeth to harmful bacteria that can first cause infections and lead to even worse issues.

The dental chair can be daunting for some, but there is no substitute for it. In case you’re thinking about a DIY dentistry project that goes beyond brushing and flossing, we suggest you consult your dentist first.

If you live in Kilbourne, Columbus, or White Sulpher, consider visiting Little Smiles Of Delaware for a consultation now.
