No matter how well you care for your child’s teeth at home, it’s still important to make sure he or she is brought to our office every six months for a dental cleaning and a checkup. Sometimes dental X-rays will be a part of the exam.
Regular dental X-rays are a great tool when it comes to preventative dentistry. They allow our pediatric dentist, Dr. Ben, to detect any oral health problems that lie beneath the surface or in between your child’s teeth. Once we’re able to see these issues on the X-ray, we can begin treatment before the situation is allowed to worsen. Dental X-rays are also useful when trying to anticipate the way your child’s teeth will emerge and form and will enable us to predict better if your child may benefit from braces and other orthodontic care.
Because of the numerous benefits, the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry have both suggested regular dental x-rays for children. We assure you that our dental X-rays are safe for your child. Here at Little Smiles of Delaware, we do everything we can to minimize your child’s exposure to x-rays. We use the most current x-ray technology, which requires the LEAST amount of radiation - and we only take x-rays when absolutely necessary.
If you have concerns regarding dental X-rays taken during your child’s dental cleaning and exam, please don’t hesitate to let us know. We’re happy to answer any questions you may have.
