Making Your Child’s First Dental Visit a Successful One

Sitting in a dentist’s chair for the first time can be scary for kids! Being alone in a big chair under a bright light while a stranger pokes their teeth with sharp-looking instruments is the stuff of nightmares, even for some adults!

Your Child’s First Visit to the Dentist’s Office

Fear of the unknown is a common reason for being scared of the dentist. The best way to help make your child’s first trip to the dentist a smooth one is to help them understand what will happen once they reach our office. Knowing what to expect will make a big difference in the way your child handles their first experience at the dentist. There’s no shortage of children’s books, episodes of kids shows, and lines of oral hygiene products aimed at kids!

It’s also a good idea to pretend-play a visit to the dentist. Make sure you avoid scary words like “shot” or “needle.” Instead, explain that Dr. Ben Kwok wants to count their teeth and make sure that they have a clean smile and strong teeth! Making the dentist fun at home will ease their anxiety once they get to our office.

Because Little Smiles of Delaware specializes in pediatric dentistry, we know how best to conduct dental cleanings and checkups for our little patients to help them feel comfortable and at ease! It’s important to us that the parents of our patients are also confident in their child’s dental care. Please let us know of any questions or concerns you may have regarding the oral health of your children.

To schedule your child’s first dental visit, please contact Little Smiles of Delaware, our Delaware, Ohio, pediatric dental office.
