Healthy School Lunch Ideas

A young boy and girl eating lunch at school

Whether your kids are learning from school or home this year, they need to be eating a healthy lunch to help them learn! Some foods are not only good for your child’s overall health but for his or her teeth as well. Below are a few mouth-healthy school lunch ideas.

  • Apples – Apples clean your teeth while you eat them! Biting into the fibrous texture of an apple will scrub your gums and teeth, fight plaque buildup, and keep teeth clean.
  • Yogurt – Yogurt is high in calcium and casein. Casein is a protein known for strengthening tooth enamel and preventing dental cavities. Yogurt also contains lots of good bacteria, which will help fight cavity-causing bacteria. Include Greek yogurt with some fresh fruit or granola in your child’s lunch.
  • Cheese – Like yogurt, cheese contains plenty of calcium and casein! Cheese is healthy for your child’s teeth and bones. Both string cheese and sliced cheese are perfect school lunch additions.
  • Carrots – Carrots are high in fiber, and vitamin A. Carrots also help to stimulate saliva production, helping to wash away harmful bacteria and food debris. A baggie of carrots in his or her lunch will improve your child’s dental and overall health!
  • Water – Remind your kids to stay hydrated and rinse their mouths with water after each meal to help wash away leftover food debris and plaque.
