As a parent, you’re responsible for looking after the health of your kids, which involves their dental health as well. So, it’s important that you stay aware of the most common dental problems in kids and how to avoid, as well as treat them.

Dental Decay

You might think tooth decay only affects the elderly, but this is untrue. As your child’s teeth are developing, they are susceptible to tooth decay as well. In fact, dental decay is very common among children. Therefore, when your child is young, it’s important to teach them positive dental hygiene habits, such as regular brushing and flossing, so that their teeth develop properly.

Gum Disease

Common gum diseases such as gingivitis are more common in adults, but they have been known to affect young kids as well. It’s important that you’re aware of the early signs of gum disease so that you know what to look out for. These can include swollen or bleeding gums. If your child’s gums bleed for an excessive amount of time, it is highly recommended that you seek the expertise of a children’s dentist.

Misaligned Teeth

As children’s teeth develop, it’s possible that they may grow in crooked or misaligned. There are several reasons this may happen, from genetic factors to thumb-sucking. It’s important to deal with misaligned teeth as early as possible. If allowed to continue developing, they can lead to headaches, jaw pain, and other health concerns. If you notice your child’s teeth developing incorrectly, consult a pediatric dentist immediately.

Sensitive Teeth

If the enamel of a child’s tooth is damaged, it can cause sensitivity issues. There are several reasons why the enamel of a child’s tooth can be damaged, but the most prevalent is a poor diet. Talk to a professional children’s dentist or dietitian about the perfect diet for your child to ensure their teeth grow strong.
