Importance of Back-to-School Dental Checkups

Back to SchoolBack-to-school season is upon us, and most families have their own back-to-school preparation routines and traditions. These traditions often involve shopping for a new backpack, new school supplies, and new school clothes for the school year.

Here at Little Smiles of Delaware, we recommend that you also consider bringing your children to our office for a back-to-school dental checkup as well! Making dental cleanings and exams a part of your back-to-school routine as well. Once school starts, we know a family’s schedule will fill up quickly with extracurricular activities and school projects. Getting your children’s dental appointments out of the way before school can be a great way to make sure your kids start the year off with clean, beautiful smiles!

Importance of Back-to-School Dental Checkups

  • Prevention – Being diligent about your child’s routine exams and cleanings allow Dr. Ben Kwok to catch potential dental issues early on when they’re easier to treat. Early detection also makes it less likely that your child will have to miss school for a dental appointment to address child tooth pain
  • Clean Slate – Let your child start the new school year off with a clean dental slate! Starting school with a clean, fresh, sparkling smile will not only boost his or her self-esteem, but also makes it easier to maintain a clean smile and fresh breath.
  • Avoid Absences – Around 52 million hours of school are missed every year because of dental problems and procedures. Additionally, dental cavities are the number one childhood illness! Cavities can be avoided by practicing good oral health and making sure to bring your child to the dentist every six months for a dental cleaning and a checkup. Make sure your child avoids school absences by keeping their teeth clean.
  • Overall Health – Studies have shown that having good dental health contributes to good overall health. Untreated tooth decay in kids can lead to malnutrition and infections. The pain from these dental diseases can make it hard to focus on schoolwork or extracurricular activities.

Here at Little Smiles of Delaware, it’s important to us that your child has a healthy, happy school year filled with fun, friends, and learning. Make it easier for your child to make a good first impression by scheduling a back-to-school dental cleaning and checkup with your Delaware pediatric dentist today!
