3 Surprising Things that Are Harmful for the Teeth

Gummy vitamins

You already know the importance of brushing, flossing, and regular visits for dental care. You also know of foods such as sticky candy, sugary foods and drinks, and other everyday things harmful to the teeth.

However, did you know some things generally considered healthy could be harming your kid’s teeth? Read on to find out what they are.

  • Chewable Vitamins: Sometimes, chewable vitamins are the only way to get fussy kids to take their vitamins. However, these may not be as beneficial as you think. These sticky and chewy vitamin snacks are loaded with sugar. Therefore, these vitamins, more or less, have the same effect as eating candy on the teeth.
  • Dried Fruits: Having your kids eat dried fruits instead of junk food for snacks may seem like a victory to you, but it isn’t as good as you think. Most dried fruits are chewy and sticky, which makes them hard to get off the teeth. Additionally, they are high in sugar. The longer the sugar stays stuck on the teeth, the worse it is for your kid’s oral health.
  • Cough Drops: If you thought that something used for medicinal purposes couldn’t be wrong, then think again. A lot of sugar is used to make these lozenges taste good. What makes them particularly bad is that they are supposed to stay in the mouth for a while. As your kid sucks on it, the sugar keeps attracting the harmful bacteria in the mouth. However, you can fix the issue by option for sugar-free cough drops.

It is also essential to take your kids for regular dental visits to ensure any dental issues are detected early on. If you live in Columbus, Kilbourne, Columbus, or White Sulpher, visit Little Smiles Of Delaware for a consultation.
