3 Common Reasons You Are Suffering From Toothache

You may not think much of it if you experience toothache occasionally. However, if you consistently find yourself grabbing your jaw with pain every time you bite something hard or eat or drink something freezing or hot, you may have issues.

There are various reasons that you could be suffering from toothache. However, some of the more common ones include the following.

  • Tooth Decay

Tooth decay is the most common reason behind a toothache. It can affect anyone; hence, most people suffering from oral discomfort tend to find themselves with tooth decay. If you are going through severe pain, then it could be a sign that the tooth decay is already significant enough to have reached the inner layer of the tooth, known as the dentin. If the decay has damaged the dentin, it can cause your tooth to become very sensitive. Hence, requiring immediate dental attention.

  • Gum Disease

Another common issue that can affect just about anyone is gum disease. Although it is usually characterized by a dull pain in the mouth and red and bleeding gums, sometimes a toothache can also indicate gum disease. Leaving gum disease untreated can be fatal, as it can damage the teeth, gums, and bones to a drastic extent. To cure gum disease, you may have to undertake surgical measures.

  • Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are something almost everyone will go through in their lives. If your wisdom teeth still haven’t come out and you start experiencing sharp pain in the back of your gums, then it may be a sign that those teeth are finally emerging. It may be even more painful if they are trying to come out in an awkward position without enough space to accommodate them, as this means that they will be pushing the other teeth away to pave their path. However, this pain isn’t as sharp as the pain caused by cavity or gum disease and will eventually go away by itself.
